Craig Brown St. Louis, MO Home of the RAMS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Paul Roberts [proberts@mail.tamcotec.com] Subject: New Tamiya TD kits Unfortunately I must be the bearer of bad news again. The Tamiya kits are re-releases of their earlier dogs. The only new M10 is the AFV Club kit which is even now percolating outward from Korea. Speaking of new kits I saw on Track Link today a screen shot of Academy's new M12 GMC. Beauty! I'm gonna go broke on these two... Save the sheckels for the AFV release!! Does anyone have further information / confirmation of this story? John Harris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: John Harris [john@ukmilmod.force9.co.uk] Subject: Home casting and decals Just to say Micro-Mark have a web site http://www.micromark.com/ which seems to offer 'online' ordering. I don't think the moulding stuff will be available on mail order (it's fairly nasty stuff), our own post office is a bit iffy about shipping such items. I'd suggest Alec Tiranti Ltd. (http://www.tiranti.co.uk) for most of this type of items, their stuff seems a little dearer, but of course shipping is less. They have a shop at Theale, near Reading. Hope this helps John Harris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Listmaster Subject: RMASG Centaur colours revisited This subject came up a couple of weeks ago, the question being whether everyone is correct in indicating SCC2 Dark Earth for the colour scheme as opposed to SCC15 used on practically everything else in 21 Army Gp. I am much indebted to John Murphy, who showed me an article (source unknown) by James Ladd, a regular author on RM subjects, which stated specifically that the RMASG Centaurs were painted dark earth although it had been intended to repaint them green. He also showed me a copy of the Standing Administration Instructions No.1 issued by the CO on 10th May 1944, which include mention of each vehicle carrying a ‘brown and white’ (the horizontal white band indicating water) painted jerrican on the trackguard, which I take as further evidence for SCC2. John's view (and mine) is that one factor might well have been a reluctance to repaint all those 3" traverse numbers on the turrets ;-). By the way, I have also seen a document (undated, unfortunately) which suggested that the battledress in which crews were dressed may come 3 Cdn Div. This raises the interesting question of whether the RMASG Centaur crews may have worn the greener (and better quality) BD of Canadian manufacture as opposed to the British-made khaki. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Geoff Cooke [Geoff.Cooke@tesco.net] Subject: Paint comparison chart Thanks for all the articles, keep them coming, I hope I might be able to help one day. Until them a quick question, has anyone got a paint comparison chart between manufacturers. How do you all mix paints/measure. Are there any good books about spraying and model techniques? Thanks Geoff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Douglas Bauer [dbauer@access1.net] Subject: Thanks Thanks to those individuals who volunteered information on acquiring 1:72 scale figures... it was much-appreciated!! Doug Bauer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Bruce Burden [bruce.burden@compaq.com] Subject: New Tamiya TD Kits >> said, I'm curious, are these just a re-release of their old M-10 motorised kit and even older (and pitiful) M-36 or are they new kits? << They are the old, old, junkers. It is a pity that the molds for this junk still exist... This will be more important once we come to start archiving back issues on a website with a search facility, as the title will probably be the field on which the search is performed.
