This raises the interesting question of whether the RMASG Centaur crews may have worn the greener (and better quality) BD of Canadian manufacture as opposed to the British-made khaki. The Centaurs were certainly crewed by some soldiers wearing the Cdn colour BD, because they were Canadians! 1st Canadian Army took over the Centaur battery's machines after the Marines were done with them. For 24 days from the 6 th of August to the 30th the 1st Cdn Centaur Btty supported 6th Airborne Div (primarily 3rd Para Bde of which 1st Cdn Para Bttn was a part). When the Airborne Div was withdrawn on the 30th the need for the Centaurs went with them and the unit was disbanded, though by that time it was down to only 6 Centaurs due to combat casualties. 1st Cdn Centaur Btty nominally had an establishment of 11 officers and 103 other ranks using 12 Centaur SPs, 3 Sherman OPs and any needed other vehicles that could be scrounged from around 1st Cdn Army. Recent discussion on AFV news generally concluded that it is unlikely that this Bty wore any distinctive markings or even whether any of the Marines' markings were painted out. I recall reading about it years ago (in a copy of an article from Random Thoughts, I think), and decided that I would build mine in that guise as soon as I saw it going cheap in London last year. I have not followed the discussion on AFV News as I preferred the structure (and the less silly threads) of Missing Links and tend to use that one more now. Better go have another look though! Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: alan fanning [alan@afanning.fsnet.co.uk] Subject: Land Rovers I'm currently trying to model three Series II Land Rovers used by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, in Aden in 1967. Does anyone know what type of radios would have been fitted and would this have been the type as used in the Ferrets of the same era? In an effort to keep costs down does anyone have the 'Dexion' style radio rack left over from the Firing Line 'LandRover 109 soft top detail and fittings set'? I'd rather not spend another £20.00 just to get another one of these. For every one I want to make I need two kits, a Revell SIII and a Tamiya SII, so to keep the cost down does anyone want to swap either the Revell S III kit No 03025 or the Tamiya S II Ambulance kit No 35082 for my unwanted Tamiya SDKFZ 7/1 kit No 35050? Thanks Al. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: MAFVAHQ@aol.com Subject: MAFVA resubscriptions If there are any MAFVA members out there who have not yet resubscribed for 2000 (and I know there are!), would you please do so promptly!
