Clifton, R.A. [rclifton@optonline.net] Subject: T- 20 Komsomolyets tractor Last week, I asked if anyone knew the color of the interior of this little tractor. Does anyone have the Model Kasten tracks for it? I think the original number from MK was K-23. I'll either pay for them (send me your price) or I'll trade for something you might need. Thank you again for your help Bob Clifton rclifton@optonline.net Accurate Armour had it listed (MK-23) at November last year, at £14.43 excluding VAT. How do their models compare with others in the same scale, i.e. 1/72? Doug Bauer Poway, CA USA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: nickbalmer [nickbalmer@ukonline.co.uk] Subject: Finnish Vickers 6 Tonne Tanks I have recently completed a Finnish Vickers 6 tonne Tank, and would like to paint it as a Mid War version, circa 1943 to 1944. In black and white photos these appear to be in a three tone camouflage scheme. Does anybody know what the colours were? Given the difficulties in determining even British Tank interior colours of the period, I hardly dare ask what colour were Finnish tank interiors in 1943? Regards Nick Balmer Consulting my copy of Zaloga's Eastern Front book, it would appear that from spring 1943, the Finnish colours were changed from overall dark green to a three colour scheme (used by the artillery since 1941) of moss green, grey and "sand brown" (actually a dark brown). The German vehicles which arrived in July-August 1944 remained in their original German dunkelgelb. Going by photographs and the colour artwork, the grey is fairly light in tone and is sometimes the minority colour, with the green and brown being approximately equal in proportions. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Listmaster Subject: Kinetic energy recovery rope (KERR) Has anyone tried successfully to make a 1/35 scale rendering of the above? It is the thick rope-like affair with a loop at each end carried on such vehicles as CVR(T) and is designed to stretch as tension is applied until a certain strain is reached, at which point it contracts, thus jerking a bogged vehicle out of the mire and allowing it to be towed or driven away. If you have, or if you know of any available in resin (less preferable, but at least it avoids dabbling with splicing a piece of string that small), would you be so good as to share it with us? Thanks Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: George Hogg [hogg_george@hotmail.com] Subject: Eastern Express KV 85 This is my 1st posting so I hope it's correct. Eastern Express has issued 3 new 1/35th scale models of KVs: KV 1s, KV 8s & KV 85. I have the 8s & the 85. A warning about the KV 85: it uses the same hull top as the other two models; this means that the turret ring is 5mm too far back! To correct this error cut off the turret ring and move it forward by 5mm, then make good the resulting hole. A nice larger than 1/35 drawing can be found at the http://www.history.enjoy.ru site under drawings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Listmaster Subject: Skif Apologies to anyone I confused last week when I suggested that Skif made a BMP-3, which is in fact an ICM kit, as indeed was the artillery piece to which I referred. The issue of Boresight which had Steve Zaloga's T-64 article was Vol.6 No.5, from September 1998. You may be able to acquire a copy from Barbarossa Books as he sometimes has back issues. Email is barbbook@dircon.co.uk Steve used parts from a Tamiya T-72 (driver’s hatch, turret hatches, barrel, MG, searchlight, stowage bin lids, gunner’s sights etc.. He concluded by saying that he would recommend it to modellers who don’t mind a fair bit of detail work to bring it up to standards but that it is not a kit for modellers expecting a state of the art model out of the box.
