Hi John, The vehicles in question belong to II(AC) Sqn RAF - more particularly, the Recce Int Cell (RIC). The AAA gun is a ZPU-23, the towed version of the ZSU-23-4. Both it and the SA-8 are Gulf War trophies, but I can't throw any light on how the Sqn came by the Chieftain & M110. I do know that the Army comes along to help paint them and keeps them in reasonable order. HTH Chris Hughes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Christopher Hughes [Cjm.Hughes@btinternet.com] Subject: WW1 workshop body Hi Nick, I've been involved in the refurbishment of the workshop in question... The work to date is somewhat cosmetic, to get the thing ready for the Defence of Britain display where it presently resides. When we stripped off the old paint, we found that much of the original woodwork was badly wormed and some major components had to be replaced. It is hoped that it will be re-united with the Leyland chassis in due course. The only item of ironmongery that is missing is the small forge for the blacksmith. We had a potential volunteer who told us he'd "skipped" one last year... So, if any subscribers know of the whereabouts of a small, portable field forge - let me know through the Thinktank list - please! If you have one or know who does have one maybe we can deal. Thanks Phill Smith Branch Secretary IPMS Milton Keynes Web site http://website.lineone.net/~ipmsuk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Listmaster Subject: Possible visit to Chicksands We have been offered the opportunity of being shown around the Chicksands Museum, most likely on a weekday evening (start c.1900 hrs) in October or November. However, the first Tuesday and second Wednesday are not likely as they clash with local MAFVA meetings. I confess that I am not entirely sure where it is but Bedfordshire sounds familiar - no doubt someone will correct me on that ;-). The following is taken from the invitation that was forwarded to me: The Museum is divided into sections, of which my collection has the lion's share! There's a new display just opened by the Americans, depicting their tenure at the base. The Int. Corps has a number of items - including an enigma machine, which only comes out for special events and is watched throughout! My bit is the Medmenham Collection, which as a history of photo interpretation throughout the last century and is very much "hands on" with lots of "3D" to see! If someone will volunteer to collect details of those interested, our contact (I think I know who it is but I only have a first name!) will provide details of the person to make arrangements at the Chicksands end. Could anyone point me at references that show the interior and perhaps a 1/76 plan? Indeed, does Geoff Lacey do one? Many thanks for your help, in anticipation. Dan Taylor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Listmaster Subject: Tankette indices to Vol.35 No.4 The latest update will go out shortly, as I have now received my issue. The indices are in MS Excel 5 format and now incorporate a series of filters to make it easier to run to ground a particular article or drawing. If you would like to be added to the list, please email to rlockie@hfs.co.uk and request to be included.
