Unfortunately the new wife did not think much of the idea of searching for military sites/model shops on honeymoon so I can't say if it's any good. I kept a look out for any museums but did not see any in the tourist guides we had, anyway it's well worth a visit just for the place and the scenery. All the best Paul Davies Some people can be so unreasonable, can't they? Thanks for the tip; I will keep my eyes open if I get there. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Jack Livesey [JLivesey@IWM.ORG.UK] Subject: Sexton Hi Reference the Sexton, it can be arranged for you to have access to the one I have in the Land Warfare Hall at Duxford. If you would like to give me a call on 01223 499327 I can arrange for you to take as many pictures as you want. Regards Jack Livesey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: MALCOLM IRESON [ireson@carltons36.freeserve.co.uk] Subject: Camouflage netting Could someone please tell me how to make decent camouflage netting, do you fit it before or after painting, how do you stick it down, how do you paint it. As you can see, I've tried and failed three times to put some netting on a Scimitar I am making, can I get it to look right, can I hell? Please help!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Listmaster Subject: M3A1 scout car plans I recently managed to acquire an old Tankette (7/5) which contains a set of 1/76 plans of this beast, drawn by a Steve Zaloga (wonder what happened to him? ;o)). Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: timothy.neate [timothy.neate@ntlworld.com] Subject: IDF Nagmashot - Nagmachon CAN ANYONE HELP? I am looking for information on the Nagmashot - Nagmachon as used by the Israeli Defence Force. Photographs, plans, anything, which would help in making a 1/76 scale model. The particular variant I'm interested in, is the late version with the Blazer armour, 'V' shaped gun shields and canvas canopy. Reference on the mine roller attachment fitted to this vehicle would also be very welcome. Any contact addresses/websites which members may know of containing this information would also be very useful. Thanks Tim Neate -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Daniel Taylor [d-taylor@dircon.co.uk] Subject: Allocation of No19 sets to motorised infantry Hi All, I am trying to work out how many radios were fitted to vehicles in the motor battalion of armoured brigades in Normandy. I'm not convinced that every half-track in a platoon would have had one. This view is mainly based on studying photos (looking for aerials) but also on the point that ordinary infantry platoons would only have had one radio. Could anyone out there offer any opinions? I'd also be interested to hear whether the scout platoon with its carriers would have had a radio in each vehicle. Many thanks Dan Taylor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Kelvin Mok [klmok@home.com] Subject: Standardized sizes for diorama bases? I have a large collection of 1/35 armour models which I would like to pose on a base, to include a minimum of ground texture, fixtures, etc. to form a natural setting. Is there a standard size or can someone recommend a suitable size on which to cut the base? I put a few models on a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet (similar to A4 size) and this seems OK to accommodate what I intend to do. Any comments before I begin to do that? Kelvin Mok klmok@home.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: IAN HANRATTY [ian@hanra.freeserve.co.uk] Subject: Sherman Mk.V ARV Mk1. I am looking for any photos or details showing the markings and stowage on these vehicles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Alpaslan Ertungealp [alp_ert@mail.matav.hu] Subject: AEF designs availability Hi, >> I've just got the AEF Designs conversion for the IDF HUMVEE "Patrol" the kit is quite good, certainly above average for resin conversions, it's a pity that they are not readily available in the UK, though mail order seems reliable. The kit includes several colour photos of the real thing, but I wondered if anyone had any further references or photographs of this vehicle. John Harris << Is AEF still in business? How can I obtain their kit? Thanks in advance, ALP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: IAN HANRATTY [ian@hanra.freeserve.co.uk] Subject: Sherman gun tractor and fascine carrier I would like to do a model of both of these vehicles in 1/76 scale but I am unable to find out any details on them. Can anyone help me out? I have the John Church plan of the fascine carrier but it does not show any details regarding the turret ring opening. Cheers Ian H -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: John Harris [john@ukmilmod.force9.co.uk] Subject: Euro Militaire 2000 I've posted a report and some photos at http://www.ukmilmod.force9.co.uk/Events/EM2000.html John Harris john@ukmilmod.force9.co.uk UK Military Modelling http://www.ukmilmod.force9.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: spike judd [spike.patti-judd@worldonline.fr] Subject: Museums in Italy and Sextons There is certainly an Army museum in Italy, probably Rome, but I have no specific info as to where. I was doing a photo exercise on T-62, T-54 & Type 59 today, & of course, there is a reasonable specimen of Sexton in pretty good condition, fitted CDP, at Saumur. CDP was a wartime item which complicated the supply situation, so I believe they were converted to M4 bits during the war. This no longer applied post-war, altho' I could be wrong. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: price.r.h@talk21.com Subject: Re Kits for sale Hello All I have the following 1/35 kits for sale: Accurate Armour Ferret £34 Hasegawa Kubelwagen £9 Chesapeake Model Design Firefly Turret set £7 Prices include postage. It seems that my modem had died and its replacement is now safely installed and working, so I will be steering well clear of touching the rotten thing in future. Unfortunately I was unable to communicate with most of the 150+ people on the list to explain the problem, so it is only those who subscribe to SMML or who asked me via my normal address who were aware of the situation, so apologies. Anyway, welcome to what should have been the first anniversary of the group at issue 52! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Listmaster Subject: Change of email address Various changes in my real job have made it necessary to change my email address, so anyone using rlockie@hfs.co.uk or rlockie@towrylaw.com for any non-Think Tank communications should change it to rlockie@platosoftware.com as soon as possible. The first will cease to work form the end of this month and the second from the end of the year. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Listmaster Subject: Tankette indices to Vol.35 No.5 The latest update will go out shortly, as I have now received my issue. The indices are in MS Excel 5 format and now incorporate a series of filters to make it easier to run to ground a particular article or drawing. If you would like to be added to the list, please email to rlockie@platosoftware.com and request to be included. It also gives me an excuse to consort with the toy boat fraternity without attracting the ridicule of the toy tank types ;-). It should be out on Sunday or Monday evening.
