I am interested in their Iraqi T59 kit. Thanks, Sal Ruiz I saw some reviews by Sewell and Zaloga in a recent issue of Boresight (the AMPS journal) which suggested they were a bit grim, as did comments on Missing Links recently. They (and the photos I have seen) were written by sufficiently knowledgeable people to persuade me to leave my wallet closed but I have not had one in my hands to inspect. However, I think they (well I think it's just one gentleman) have re-organised to ensure excellent quality control. They will also fit into an A4 photocopier paper box for transport to model shows, competitions, etc. Try and work to the rule find a box first and then make the diorama fit the box. Regards Phill Smith -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Daniel Taylor [d-taylor@dircon.co.uk] Subject: Camouflage netting Hi Can't claim to be definitive, but a technique that has worked for me is as follows - I tend to apply any draped fittings after the bulk of the body painting is complete but before the weathering. Before draping on the vehicle or rolling for stowage, I set off by misting the net with water dispensed from one of those hand-held plastic bottles gardeners are seen titivating plants with. This helps to get those little lint bits under control. Were I a good deal wealthier, I'd use those Evian atomisers.... Anyway, having gotten it onto the vehicle in an approximation of the shape I want, I proceed to lightly brush it with a water/PVA glue mix. This will make it set to a decently rigid, controllable shape but still allows a wash of colour to impregnate the net once in place. For the wash I have used watercolour and oils successfully although obviously not on the same net. Although this works for plain nets, I have not attempted one with scrim on it although in 1/76 there's not too much point. Good luck Dan Taylor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Cooper, Mike [Mike.Cooper@reading.gov.uk] Subject: Tomstins Dear All Well, after some time just being SMMlie it's good to have TT back! Looking around I've come across a supplier I knew nothing about - Tomstins. They do a smallish 1/76 white metal range of early WW2 French and British Guns and tractors. From what I've seen the quality is very respectable - their 155mm GPF is up with SHQ in quality. There are only four British pieces, but the French range includes some unique items - AA guns and some of the more unusual WW2 pieces. They are also interested in WW1. Prices range from about a fiver for a 47mm AT gun to £10 for larger Latil tractors Do take a look, the address is: Tomstins 202 Wollaton Rd Beeston Notts NG9 2PH Mike Cooper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Jon Barker [jon_barkerm113@hotmail.com] Subject: M113 armament Good to see Think Tank back, I was hoping that it would return. I have found a reference in Jane's World Armoured Fighting Vehicles 1976 that says, "A number of countries have fitted the SS11 ATGW to the M113". Does anyone know which countries, how many missiles carried, hull top, side, or turret mounted etc.? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. It is from an official GA drawing so no doubt Bovington can provide copies of that and possibly more. Thanks to Nick Balmer for pointing this out on the way home from the IPMS Nats earlier today. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Listmaster Subject: Bovington library Has anyone been to the new library at Bovvy since it apparently relocated? Is it better/worse? Is it still free? Are there any changes to the access arrangements?
