The numbers used seem to have been very small, mainly in Italy. One >wonders what became of them after the war? Canada had a few of the wee beasties during WW II as well. I don't know if it was from old stocks or newly issued at the time, but 25 Cdn Brigade in Korea used a de-gunned M8 as the personal mount of its CO, Brigadier "Rocky" Rockingham. I heard that they train with them in the Desert and keep the new kit for the real thing (over to Mark Hazzard here, twas thee that told me was it not). A more detailed account will go into IPMS Mag and Tankette in 2001. Please note that this is a potted account from a non-expert! 1941 - The DAK land in Panzer Grey. This is horrible, so they daub their tanks pretty fully in mud in embarrassment at the smart Caunter-scheme British tanks (which are just about to stop being Caunter anyway). 1941 - HM 1941 281 institutes a two tone tropical scheme of a RAL 8000 Gelbbrun/Grunbrun base with 1/3 overpainting in RAL 7008 Graugrun/Kkahibraun. According to a new source – Tomas Chory "Wehrmacht Heer Camouflage Colours 1939-45", Olomuc, 2000 (ISBN: 809026341/0 - English translation is £19.95), RAL8000 = Humbrol 118+93. 1942 - HM 1942 Nr.315 of 25 March introduces a base of RAL 8020 Gelbbraun with 1/3 overpainting in RAL7027 Sandgrau. Fighting was mainly in western end of Libya, which is very pinky sandy coloured and it seems that 8020 was a warm sand/sandy pink. This has been authenticated from both veterans’ accounts and surviving paint (apparently inside Bovington's Kettenrad at one time) to 3pts Humbrol 94 to 1pt Humbrol 61 Flesh. 61 is one of the most horrible flesh colours marketed, but here it produces something not dissimilar to the British SCC11b "Desert Pink". Chory says 5x63 to 1x93 for 8020 and 5x110 + 1x34 for 7027 I've a copy of Chory on order from Books International, and I'd like to thank Mike Starmer, Chris Lloyd Staples, Neil Barker and Alan Boughey for their help in preparing this. There are parallel to Chory's mixes on a useful website at: www.miniatures.de/html/ita/colourRAL.html I'm now pretty confident given Tomas Chory's use of primary sources and contemporary RAL that this is accurate. It may not be complete, as the DAK position seems less straightforward. I've deliberately not mentioned captured colours, as I'm not satisfied about the evidence yet. Hope you all have a good 2001. Has anyone put this on anything in 1/35th yet? I'm just curious, having used it in the infinitely preferable 1/76th..... Waite [mw99@rapid.co.uk] Subject: 1/87th Roco tanks Hi Seasons Greetings to one and all. New campaign season, does anybody have an address for a UK supplier of 1/87th Roco Minitanks? Have trawled the net but nothing doing. Wishing you all the best in 2001. Regards John Harris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Listmaster Subject: Discounted plastic kits (UK subscribers) I have just returned from a visit to the Beatties branch in High Holborn in London, where there is a sale on with 30% off marked prices on all Tamiya plastic kits and 20% on all Revell plastic kits. I believe someone told me recently that the same applies in other Beatties stores so if you have not done so already, it might be worth a visit to your local one. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Listmaster Subject: Issuance Apologies for the late despatch of this volume, but I forgot to send it before going away on Saturday for a few days :-(. It actually seems as though I will be at home for at least the next two weekends, so there is an even chance that some sort of normal service may be resumed. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Listmaster Subject: SMML down temporarily For those of you who are SMMLies but who have not heard from other source, Shane has experienced some sort of hard disk meltdown, so SMML is off-air for a period while it is fixed. The last one I received was 1112 on 2nd January so please bear with him while he sets up again. I am told that the message board on the Warship site will contain an update as to when things will be back to normal.
