There is also a substantial amount of other Tamiya kits on 'special offer' proving yet again that their national pricing policy does not relate to the uniform system we should hope for. Still none in Holborn however :-(. Having been charged £8.00 duty on transfers twenty years ago, importing from the US I prefer to buy from the UK. Sorry for the typo, you are quite correct it should read "without trailer". They had sold out of M26s later in the week, also all the Leopards had gone, though the JSDF kits remained (not entirely surprising). I was not entirely happy with the packaging, two sheets of brown paper round a rather heavy book, consequently the corners of the book were damaged, but that may well be me being fussy. Some other people I know have also ordered and I haven't heard anyone complain so far. Their links page is terrific. Regards T. Metsovitis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: è [torpy@e-free.gr] Subject: Saracen Mk3 colour schemes The Saracens serving in Cyprus have gone through several colour schemes in the '80s and '90s. Their last one, as far as I know, was sand and green. Previously I had seen Saracens painted green and a dark shade of stone that matched exactly Humbrol's 8th Army Desert Yellow HM1. Based on the fact that Saracens and Ferrets in Cyprus always seemed to have the same colour scheme, it is possible that at some time during the early '80s they carried a scheme of sand, green and black. I have seen Ferrets in this scheme but not Saracens at the same time. The sand used in this scheme was very yellow and it matched exactly the old Airfix M14 Buff. Regards T. Waite [mw99@rapid.co.uk] Subject: German panzer grenadiers Hi I have been trying to find out what actual vehicles were issued to the second battalions of German panzer grenadier regiments i.e. the motorised rather than armoured for the mid war period. Most table simply list them as one and a half tonne trucks, and stop at that. I'm after actual vehicle types. Regards Malcolm Waite -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Listmaster Subject: Mr. Surfacer UK source Apologies to anyone who started searching through all their issues of Tamiya Magazine for the address of MDC - I have just found the review I was describing in Scale Aviation Modeller's August 1998 issue! Anyway, MDC's address was given as 1 Park Mews, Church Street, Riddings, Derbyshire, DE55 4DD. Telephone/fax number is (01773) 609700. Price for Mr. Surfacer was given as £5.95 per bottle at the time and apparently once dry, it can be removed with alcohol and so does not need the same degree of sanding as other fillers. I am in the process of designing a Scenario for the board wargame 'Advanced Squad Leader' involving troops of the 18th Battalion Reconnaissance regiment near Bukit Timah Road Singapore 10/11th February 1942. I am trying to determine what vehicles they were using at that time. My source "Only the Enemy in Front (every other beggar behind): The Recce, Corps at war 1940-46" by Richard Doherty, BCA, 1994, p.86, states 'the advance was led by 10 wheeled carriers' Can I assume that these were India pattern carriers or would they be another type of vehicle. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Shaun Carter -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Listmaster Subject: That was the Daewoo that was From the depths of the Loire valley comes the news that Spike Judd's PC has blown up and so he will apparently be off-line for a week or so. Hopefully he will let me know when he is back in circulation but in the meantime, don't expect replies to any emails you may send him. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: Listmaster Subject: Spare bed available for Trucks and Tracks in May We are organising accommodation for the Saturday night of Trucks and Tracks in Folkestone over the weekend of May 19th 20th and so far have a party of three. However, three people means a twin and a single room and clearly, two twins works out cheaper for everyone. If there is anyone wanting a bed for the night of 19th in the superior accommodation of the Burlington Hotel, please let me know at rlockie@platosoftware.com . Cost for B&B would be £38 each and there is a bar (not that we ever spend much time using such facilities ;-). ) and a decent restaurant on site. Unfortunately I am not anticipating being near any military sites so it could be regarded by some as a largely wasted trip, although hopefully I can compensate for it later in the year.
