The review I read also mentioned that MDC was unable to stock Gunze's putty (called, perhaps unsurprisingly, "Mr Putty") due to its hazardous content. Not sure why it is so dangerous (toluene as solvent?) but on the premise that anything dangerous must be worth having, I must get hold of some ;-). Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: alan fanning [alan@afanning.fsnet.co.uk] Subject: Identifile :Land Rover I was looking through an old copy of Wheels & Tracks (No.24) and found a picture of a Land Rover on page 45 - under the Identifile section. The text says the picture was taken in the mid-70s in a surplus dealer's yard and shows what looks like a rocket launcher mounted on the back of the Land Rover (not a good picture but looks like a Series II or IIA 109 inch). I think it is more likely a launcher for target drones or UAVs but I would like to find out what it is and if it actually went into service with the British Armed Services. Does anyone have the next few issues (25 to 28)? I would like to find out if anyone replied with more information or photographs, if anyone has these issues could you look in the Identifile section and see if they had any replies then I can look out for the relevant issue at the shows. Many thanks. I found a large lathe and a 'left-over' piece of wood and decided to make some one-to-one scale ammunition. Bob (the listmaster) kindly sent me plans for two different types - a German 8.8cm AT round and a 75mm British/US AT round. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, they came out really rather well and the 88 in particular is a rather nice piece for the living room. Well, that's what I'm telling the wife. The practical reason for bringing this up - As they came out okay, I was thinking of finding some way of casting them up. Has anyone got any thoughts on the practicalities of this? It would be a shame if these were just one-offs. Best wishes Dan Taylor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Daniel Taylor [d-taylor@dircon.co.uk] Subject: Ammo cases Hi All. Sad case that I am, I would like to build a couple of 6-pdr ammunition cases in 1/76. It is the variety with the slightly rounded section that appeals (I don't know if there are any other types). If anyone could direct me towards some plans I'd be mighty grateful. Thanks Dan Taylor There are, as far as I am aware, at least two versions. One is a box of square cross-section which looks similar to the British 75mm shell box but has a wavy line impressed into it (or it may be raised). The other is like the metal 17pdr shell box and holds two rounds. As luck (for you) would have it, I have plans of the latter but not (unfortunately for me) of the former. I think the RAC Museum at Bovington may have been the source – quite possibly the box covering the Loyd carrier. By the way, if anyone has measured up the earlier type, or even better, has one, I would like to hear from them as it is one of the few I am missing for drawing up. Could be an import from Cromwell Germany? Any help etc. would be of assistance, and much appreciated. Regards, John C Dowman. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Listmaster Subject: TT and shows next weekend I am back at home for a few weeks now, so TT should get back to its regular schedule. In the meantime, Sunday 1st April sees two shows that are worth attending, namely the annual kit swap at Mildenhall (I think it is in the AYA Centre again) and the model show at Cosford aircraft museum in Shropshire. If anyone who would like to go to either would like more details, please email me on rlockie@platosoftware.com and I will see what else I can find.
