Thanks in particular to Ian Hanratty who replied off-list with a comprehensive list in the range I was interested in. In a similar vein can anyone tell me what the marking F ' 81 stands for? I was asked this by someone else who had read an article in Land Rover Monthly; this marking was on the rear wing of an RAF Series One Land Rover, which was in service between 1951 and 1957. Any Ideas? Regards Alan Fanning -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: john.baumann@talk21.com Subject: DAF M39 armoured car in Dutch service For those that have an interest in this thread, may I direct you to the series of articles Geoff Lacey and I collaborated on for Tankette. Issues 29/4 5 & 6 refer. (T29/4 Part 1: P.10-11, M36/L181) (T29/5 Part 2: P.15, M38/L180) (T29/6 Part 3: P.5, Dutch L181/L180 & DAF M39 in service). Of the only 12 DAFs, some 7 were armed and may have gone into service. I say may, because most action pictures of this period only show the Landsverks. All views of the DAF I can locate show AFV serial number N44946 on trials. One interesting photograph showing a destroyed DAF may be found in Speilberger's "Beute Kfz & Panzer der deutschen Wehrmacht" book. However, this knocked-out AFV could be anywhere. No late war Orange (identity) triangle (introduced 10/1939) appears to be evident. From a Dutch source the one M39 Squadron was broken down into four platoons (Cavalry Depot at Hemsburg/Hague). The serials were supposedly as follows (proving III-2203 would be correct):- 1st Pln AFV No. Serial Position C3 III-2201 Command 25 III-2202 26 III-2203 2nd Pln C4 III-2204 Command 27 III-2205 28 III-2206 3rd Pln C5 III-2207 Command 29 III-2208 30 III-2209 4th Pln C6 III-2210 Command 31 III-2211 32 III-2212 Regards, John -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Jon Barker [jon_barkerm113@hotmail.com] Subject: German Feldgendarmerie kit swap? Hi, I have just got the Dragon kit (no.6098) German Feldgendarmerie with dogs because I wanted the dogs. This leaves me with the 2 figures and I wondered if anyone had bought the kit for the figures but did not want the dogs? I would be interested in a swap if so (UK only because of postage costs unfortunately). I would also be interested in any other 1/35 scale Alsatian-type dogs for a diorama; I know that Tamiya has included them in several of their kits.
