Lloyd-Staples [lloydstaples@btopenworld.com] Subject: Flexible ribbed tubing I'm looking for exactly the same thing - for fuel/water hose on a Soviet fuel truck. I'd be interested if anyone comes up with a source. I ponder if there might be some fire engine fanatics out there somewhere with a specialist source of hoses of this type..... Are there any fire engine model shops?? I shuddered at the other prospect, namely winding thin wire around a core and supergluing it into place. A quick calculation of the length of wound wire required......!! Chris Lloyd-Staples -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: John Harris [jc.harris@ntlworld.com] Subject: ZU-23-2 Take II Hello all, Regarding the ZU-23-2, interesting that a Dragon/DML kit is quoted, since the first postings I found that AEF sell a "ZU-23-2, complete towed version of gun. Includes DML injection moulded finely detailed gun tubes and 4 extra ammo boxes. Plus instructions and suggestions for mounting the weapon on other vehicles. @ $20.00" I never remember a Dragon kit in the UK, was it packaged with some figures, though the #38nn number indicates a "vehicle" kit. Incidentally, I seem to remember Azimut skipped TnT last year, though that might have been the later date. JH Sounds as though the gun tubes might have come from the ZSU-23-4 kit, although the flash hiders are different. Still, I fail to recall any ammunition boxes in the Dragon ZSU, so maybe they are AEF originals. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: John Harris [jc.harris@ntlworld.com] Subject: Zu-23-2 Take III DML #3518 is the ZSU-23-4 Shilka, not quite the same. JH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: John Harris [jc.harris@ntlworld.com] Subject: ZU-23-2 Take IV Some info at, http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/www/286a.htm http://www.df.ru/~dish/zu23-1r.htm (good pictures from Leningrad, essential to use the Azimut set) http://www.hcs5.navy.mil/threats/zu-23_main.html http://www.nellis.af.mil/UNITS/547IS/TTF/ZU232.htm . Incidentally, these guns often seemed to appear on early news coverage of Afghanistan in the recent period, however, their use appeared to be more for effect than actual combat. JH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Kelvin Mok [klmok@home.com] Subject: Flex tubing Your description fits the rubber insulation used in electrical appliance wiring in gauges 14, 16, 18, 22 and 24 AWG. Some insulation even comes with a pattern not unlike ribbing. The common colours are black, white, red and green. Pull out the wire core and you have your tube. Kelvin Mok That sounds like what I need. Thanks. Robert -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: John Harris [jc.harris@ntlworld.com] Subject: ZU-23-2 V SP Designs include their own (all resin) ZS-23-2 with their MT-LB kit to make a ersatz AA APC, see details (and pictures) of the kit at http://members.tripod.com/saammodels/Military/Armor/SP_Designs/Completekits/mtlbzsu232/index.htm F&F offer these kits for £33.99. The SP Designs MT-LB is quite a good kit, perhaps better than Skif’s and not that much dearer either. JH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Clive Harman [cliveharman1@yahoo.com] Subject: M3 Medium tanks at Kohima I was asked by a Spanish friend for help on info about the employment by Commonwealth forces of M3 Lees/Grants during the battle of Kohima (Burma, 1944). This is way out of my area, can anybody help please? Thanks, Clive -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Michael Page [mikepat53@hotmail.com] Subject: LRDG vehicles Could think tank possibly help me out. I recently joined MAFVA and also think tank and I was wondering if any of the members still had copies of Tankette 5-4 and 7-3. In both, there are articles (1) about the LRDG and (2) an article about modelling the 30 cwt Chevrolet used by the LRDG. Also does anyone know of a source of the Matchbox LRDG models. Could you please include my e mail address. Many thanks in advance Mike Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Listmaster Subject: Tankette indices to Vol.37 No.1 The next set of Tankette indices are nearly ready to go out to those on the distribution list, covering up to Volume 37 No.1.
