May 2026 meeting review

What a great and eclectic collection of models on show this month. Space ships, monsters, coffin cars and Canberra bombers all graced the tables, thanks to our themes of ‘TV & movies’ and the letter ‘C’ . Not only were the tables jam packed with models but so was the days program. This included a visit from Charmain Travis, daughter of our recently departed Jim Travis and a display of rare Frog kits from 1976.

Visit from Charmain Travis

Our special guest Charmain Travis came to thank APMA for helping her sell off Jims considerable stash of kits. The sale of these kits raised several thousands of dollars which was donated to some of Jim’s favorite charities. Much of the hard work of collecting, organising and selling the kits was done by Graham Carter and Simon Wolff. Well done lads, sterling effort!

Carlo Piscicelli our club Chairman announced that Charmain would be made an honorary member of the APMA and be given her fathers membership number ’15’. Also as a Tribute to Jim, Carlo announced that in the new year we would have a special theme ‘Jims kits’ , where participants would need to display models purchased from Jim’s stash. Finally Charmian was asked if she would like to draw the raffle.

Frog Models display

Keeping with our fiftieth anniversary we had a special display of Frog kits from 1976. The display provided a look at kit manufacturing and packaging of the time. Many thanks to Bob Morgan and Warren Evans for bringing in their kits for display and for their knowledge and insights.
